Ian Williams was born on February 7th 1935 in Wellington, New Zealand, and died on September 14th 2004 in Sydney, Australia.
He was a keen photographer all his life, but only became involved in large format photography during his latter years. He loved the medium and the friends he made through the pursuit of his art.
His was a unique and poetic eye that captured the essence of the Australian landscape. He loved to learn and to always improve. I am sure that his best work was still ahead of him. He has, nevertheless, left behind a wealth of images. He was also a talented draftsman and painter, evidenced by the sophisticated simplicity of his photography.
The above biography of Ian Williams was kindly provided by his son Tim. Tim is an architect who lives in Sydney, and has himself recently taken up large format photography.
